UTAU is a singing synthesis shareware application designed for Microsoft windows With it's recent Mac Implementation which has spurred some rumors of another version to soon come out for Linux, that allows users to create their own 'voice banks' and have their personal 'UTAU's' sing in harmony. May 29, 2011 Source: UTAU-Synth. A Mac OS X version of the UTAU software has been released. More info after the break. Until now, Mac users couldn’t enjoy UTAU, and were limited to only using proprietary software like the Macne series instead as there was no Mac OS X version of Vocaloid either. Want to make your own UTAU voicebank AND learn how to oto? Here please:) PLEASE READ FOR FAQ How do i export a so.
UTAU
If you know of Vocaloid, you probably know of UTAU. UTAU is a singing synthesis shareware application designed for Microsoft windows [With it's recent Mac Implementation which has spurred some rumors of another version to soon come out for Linux], that allows users to create their own 'voice banks' and have their personal 'UTAU's' sing in harmony. It is known to at times produce better, more realistic results than Yamaha's Vocaloid, amongst others, but requires more effort on part of the user.
MMD [Miku Miku Dance]
If you know of UTAU, you probably know of Miku Miku Dance. Miku Miku Dance is free software that is designed for Microsot Windows that allows users to move models that either they or others created. This can be use to create lipsyncing videos, music and dancing videos, PV's, home made movies (with the models) amongst other things, frame by frame.PMD/PMX Editor
This program was also designed for Windows. It is for the creation and editing of .PMD/.PMX files that are used to dance/move/sing in MikuMikuDance.Prerequisites [Required Programs]:
-- Linux Distribution [Any kind will do, really]-- Playonlinux
-- Wine
-- Winetricks
-- Japanese Locale Enabled
Assuming that you already have a Linux distribution coming to this tutorial, first, download and install the lastest play on linux version. At the time of this tutorial, that would be 4.2.1. The instructions for installation depends upon your distro. If you use Arch like me, then it's no problem! Installation is as simple as popping a terminal and entering in:
This command, not only updates your system but it also syncs to the repositories and gives you the proper programs that you need for this tutorial.
The Japanese Locale issue [This will demonstrate how to acquire it in Archlinux], is a no brainer. If locale -a yields anything similar to these:
C
POSIX
en_US
en_US.iso88591
en_US.utf8
ja_JP
ja_JP.eucjp
ja_JP.ujis
ja_JP.utf8 # Specifically this one
japanese
japanese.euc
zh_CN
zh_CN.gb18030
zh_CN.gb2312
zh_CN.gbk
zh_CN.utf8
Then there is really nothing else you have to do.
Otherwise, uncomment the line ja_JP.UTF-8 in the file /etc/locale-gen. And then run:
sudo locale-gen
If you already have these things, then great, skip this step.
Installation of UTAU
To install utau, it is pretty easy.

-- Playonlinux
-- Wine
-- Winetricks
-- MMD
Steps:
1. Correct Settings, Create the 64 Bit Virtual Drive, and put MMD inside of it
2. Adjust the Windows version
3. Debug to figure out the required programs to run
4. Fix The Layout Issue
5. Enjoy MMD!
Step 1:
First, select tools.
Then select x64 and scroll down to the wine version 1.4-rc4-raw3 and install it. Then click on configure.
In the bottom left corner, select new, run through the installer and select 1.4-rc4-raw3 for your wine version.
Take note of the name of your Virtual Drive. The next part will be easier. Open a terminal and Do:
cd /path/to/the/mmdfile.zip
unzip -x *thezipfile*; cp -a *thefolderthatcomesoutofit* ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/nameofthevirtualdrive/drive_c/Program Files(x86)/
Now you go into the PlayOnLinux configuration dialogue and you click on 'Create shortcut from virtual drive.'
Step 2:
Now it's the time to adjust the Windows version. Click on the Wine tab Inbetween 'general' and 'install components' and select 'Configure wine'.
Then in the first part of the Windows 98 looking dialogue box on the bottom right, select 'Windows 7'. It should be towards the top.
You may now press apply and okay, and then close the dialogue boxes. Leave the main Playonlinux window open, the one that has your shortcuts in it.
Finally, you settings must match the ones I have up on my virtual drive. Select the 'Display' tab second to last and then change your settings to match.
Step 3:
In order to complete step five, you'll have to select MMD, and then 'debug' on the right hand side above 'Report a problem'. If no errors are returned and MMD runs successfully, congratulations, move to the next step! Otherwise, watch the error messages dialogue to figure out if there are any necessary .dll's.
Step 4:
With MMD open in Linux at the moment, it looks atrocious.
So, to solve this, click on the window and press alt+ V and then alt+W (view > separate window). Resize them to your heart's content and enjoy MMD in linux.

So far in this wine version that we've selected, there are no issues with even multimodels. In fact, I feel like it ran faster in linux than it ever did on any of my Windows computers. The raw speed is incredible. The controls like on Windows are the same, so enjoy the familiarity of the program!!

What is an UTAU? Where can I download it? What are the Terms?
Because it sooooo needed to be said.
Parts of this is copypasta from UTAUwikia [http://utau.wikia.com/wiki/UTAU_wiki:Introduction_to_UTAU]
What is UTAU?
UTAU is a voice-synthesis software made for the Windows Operating system. Like Vocaloid, you are in control of a vocalist to sing your songs for you. Though, UTAU doesn't have as many features as Vocaloid; UTAU does give the option to import your own voices or others voices into it, to be used for singing. This will be covered in later tutorials. UTAU is freeware, which means you don't pay for it, or the voices used. Everything is free, so if you paid for anything about UTAU or it's voices, you've been gypt!
UTAU is in no way affiliated with Vocaloid. It's engine was developed by a group of users, and not YAMAHA, or CRYPTON, the creators of Vocaloid.
The creators of UTAU have said all voices can be used in commercial work with no charge. Though, a person can sue if their voice was recorded without permission. So don't record any famous singers voices.
Terms and Default Voices
The Default, and only voice that comes with a fresh install of UTAU is Uta Utane/Defoko. More voices can be obtained through searches of UTAU's download page stated above, browsing Youtube, or Nico, or even just using Google. Also see the [UTAU library page].
Voicebank- Refers to the voice's used in UTAU. A voicebank is a series, or bank of files used to make a UTAU sing.
Vibrato- Vibrato isn't actually a UTAU-used term, but an instrument-related term. It's the wavy sound heard at the end of a note on an instrument, or at the end of a note sung by a person.
.wav- A .wav file is an audio file that UTAU uses to make a voicebank sing. All voicebank files are made in .wav format, and anything exported from UTAU is also a WAV.
.midi- A .midi file is another export-audio file that can be imported into other applications. It has a small file size, because it does not store any actual sound data - instead, it is made up of a list of instructions that tell the program how to play a piece of music. Think of a MIDI file as sheet music and the program you export it into as an instrument. A MIDI will play your voicebank in UTAU, but importing MIDIs into other applications will cause the voice to be replaced with that program's sound bank, just as you can't get a clarinet sound on a piano by playing a piece of clarinet sheet music on a piano.
.mp3- Yet another audio export file. This is a popular file format for sharing because of its small size and high compatibility with music players, but it is less flexible than MIDI and doesn't have the quality of WAV. A good idea is to export a WAV as a 'master', and then make an MP3 from that as a 'single' which you can send to others.
.rar- A .rar file is a compressed folder that can carry many files at once. To open a .rar, you will need a file extractor, like Winrar.
Where/What to Download
UTAU Website
^ You dont actually like... need the installer.
You can just download the UTAU package and it'll run fine.
[UTAU is compatible with VISTA, XP and 7, if you have AppLocale.]
When you download the package, just extract the folders in the .rar file and run the utau program in the folder.
Installing UTAU English Patch
Download the Patch Here
1. Open the .rar file. Inside, there should be a folder called 'res'
2. Don't open the res folder, but rightclick on it, then select 'Extract to specified folder'
3. That box up there will pop up. Search through your folders and find the one labeled 'utau0275' IF you downloaded the latest version. Click okay and winrar will extract the res folder into yoru utau folder.
4. Open up utau and it should be in english. The res folder has scripts in it to run utau in english. Its kinda choppy, butchered english, but english nonetheless.
The patch is known to work with the latest version of UTAU (2.76) and works with SHAREWARE.
CREATING AN UTAU
So, you want to know how to make an UTAU?
First off, you need a recording program.
Oremo and Audacity usually work best.
So, I use Audacity, so im gonna use that for this part of the tutorial.
1. Well, you got Audacity open. To record, press the red dot button thing then to stop recording, press the yellow square button thing.
The purple arrows pointing left move your cursor selected thing to the beginning of the recording. The purple arrows pointing right move it to the end. Green arrow is play. C:
2.There, you got your sound. :P
3. Now, we're going to save it. AS A WAV OR UTAU WONT READ IT! :D SO, go to File, then Export As Wav...
4. So, you know how I said to download the package above? If you do that, you can create a new folder in the VOICE folder (...utau0276voice...) inside the utau folder, and skip the step about adding the voicebank. If you have a folder under VOICE with wav files in it, UTAU automatically recognizes the folder and adds it to the list of singers. Handy-dandy.
5. Repeat for the rest of the sounds for your voicebank.
If You Used the Installer or UTAU does not Automatically Recognize
Well, we gotta do this the old fashioned way.
1.In UTAU, go to Tools (7th Tab) and select Options (6th in dropdown)
2. Now, we want the second tab at the top, called Bank Regist. Click on Select.
3. Browse your files and find your voicebank. Select the A sound and click open.
4. Then, in the row of 3 buttons, click Add, or the one on the far left. Then, click OK. (it says OK in untranslated version too C:)
5. To make Sure UTAU got your bank, and to Change th singer of a song, we'll go to Project (5th Tab), and then to Project Property (3rd in dropdown)
6. Find the drop down list (the Delta) and find your voicebank. Click on it, then click OK
Your UTAU should be selected as the singer of the UST you currently have open. C:
For Further Explanation of Creating an UTAU, See Yesi's Tutorial here.
This tutorial explains Terms of Use, choosing the default singer, and making Oto.ini's, which... we all kinda hate. :P
